basics for winter ::: básicos para el invierno

fiona and i are going to argentina next week, we are so excited! {and i am a little stressed out to be honest, so much to plan and do!}.  of course, it is winter there, so when i started to check fiona's clothes i realized that lots of them are too small now.  so i made her this skirt and dress, since she has colourful tights and shirts, i thought these are going to be like basics that go with everything.  i really love denim and i wear it all the time, it is like a neutral to me.

fiona y yo nos vamos a argentina la semana que viene, estamos re-contentas! (yo un poco estresada también, tengo tanto que hacer y planear antes de irnos!).  por supuesto, allá es invierno y cuando empecé a preparar la ropa de fiona me di cuenta que hay muchas cosas que ya no le entran, asique le hice este vestido y esta pollera-falda.  ella tiene unas cuantas calzas y remeras muy coloridas asique me pareció que este vestido y pollera le van a venir bien porque al jean los podes combinar con todo. 

i used dark pink thread and i really love the combination.  the little page there on the wall is from this wonderful little old spanish-english dictionary that i found in buenos aires a few years ago.

usé un hilo rosa oscuro y me encanta la combinación.  ese papel en la pared es una página de un diccionario para chicos castellano-inglés que encontre en una feria de antigüedades en buenos aires hace unos años.

 i know these are going to get a lot of used there and here during the winter. 

espero que use las dos cosas mucho allá y en el invierno de acá.

and here is the princess-butterfly with her skirt.  the light was so good that i couldn't resist snapping away.

y acá está la princesa-mariposa con su falda nueva.  ella se paró ahi y la luz era tan linda que le saqué un montón de fotos (hay que aprovechar cuando se deja).

i don't know if i will have time to post before leaving or if i'll have access to posting while there.  so don't worry if i don't show up here till september.  it is always so exciting and emotional to go back home to me.  i hope i can take lots of photos and be so inspired by all the creativity there.
wish me luck, flying for 17 hours with a 3 year old is not always the easisest.  i will miss you!

no se si voy a tener tiempo de postear antes de irme o si voy a poder hacerlo desde allá, asique no se asusten si no aparezco por acá hasta septiembre. 
espero poder sacar muchas fotos y llenarme de inspiración en buenos aires.  que movilizante que es para mi cada vez que voy!
deseame suerte, ya que viajar por 17 horas con una nena de tres años no es muy fácil que digamos.  las voy a extrañar!

flowers for their hair ::: flores para sus cabellos

i made some headbands for the store, they are all made with linen and i used vintage buttons from argentina and portugal for the centers of the flowers.  of course, taking pictures of them was as much fun as making them.

hice unas vinchas/diademas para poner en el negocio.  están todas hechas con lino y tienen un botón vintage en el medio de cada flor.  por supuesto, me gustó tanto hacerlas como sacarle las fotos.

old florida ::: la florida antigua

i am back with the second dress.  i had to use this linen because besides it being super light, it has an air of old florida {and we are going to florida} that i like very much.

aca estoy, con el segundo vestido.  este lino me pareció ideal, porque además de ser muy fresco, tiene una onda a los estampados que estaban muy de moda hace muchos años en la florida (y ahi es a donde vamos).

there was really no reason for posting so many photos, but i have a hard time deciding which ones i like most.

for the ocean ::: para el mar

we are going on a little vacation next week, i am so glad i am going to see the ocean!  i have missed it so!
so instead of getting ready, i am making dresses for fiona {yes, dresses plural, i am cutting another one now}.

nos vamos de mini-vacaciones la semana que viene.  estoy tan contenta que voy a ver el mar!  lo extraño tanto!  asique, en vez de preparme para el viaje, hago vestidos para fiona (si, `vestidos´en plural, estoy por empezar a cortar otro).

i love the old fashion look of this fabric.

esta tela me encanta porque tiene un aire antiguo.

the pocket, my pride and joy.  but the next dress will come without a pocket, no time!
{i will add a photo of fiona wearing it soon}.

el bolsillo, debo reconocer que estoy muy orgullosa de como salió.  pero el próximo sale sin bolsillo, no tengo tiempo!  (voy a agregar una foto de fiona con el vestido pronto).

tutorial and giveaway ::: tutorial y regalo

so, i have had a few requests for a tutorial for the following things i made a while ago:

varias personas me preguntaron si podía explicarles como hacer estas flores:

so here is my tutorial:

asique aca va el tutorial:

cut 12 circles of fabric, i cut 3 different sizes for this particular flower, but you can experiment with cutting all the circles the same size and use different fabrics, like i did here or just one fabric.  also, cut a smaller circle out of felt for the back of the flower.

corta 12 círculos de tela, yo corté 3 tamaños distintos para esta flor, pero vos podes experimentar cortando todos los círculos del mismo tamaño o, también podes usar una sola tela para todos.  también corta un círculo más chiquito de paño lenci o fieltro para la parte de atrás de la flor.

fold the circles in half and then in half again.

doblá los círculos por la mitad dos veces.

sew the folded circles to the felt circle.

cosé los círculos al círculo de fieltro.

sew the smaller circles overlapping the bigger ones.

cosé los círculos más chicos sobre los más grandes, si querés hacelos que no coincidan justo uno arriba del otro.

sew the smallest circles the same way.

cosé los círculos más chiquitos de la misma forma.

and voilà!  i trimmed the bigger circles a bit and added a little button in the center and a pin in the back.
note that if you use a stiffer fabric, like i did in the flower in the first photo, it is going to look different.

y voilà!  yo corté un poco los círculos mas grandes y le agregué un botón en el medio y un alfiler de prendedor atrás.  nota:  la flor va a ser diferente si usas una tela mas gruesa (como en la primera foto).

and here i am, "modeling" it.  It has been a long time since i made a gift for you guys, so if you would like to own this happy brooch, please leave me a comment telling me why you are here, why you come to petunia, i would love to hear from you!  and i want to see your flowers!  if you can, send me links to your photos.
