moodboard and cards/moodboard y tarjetas

This is my moodboard/ode to Buenos Aires' design.  Most of these are tags from clothes we bought there.  I especially like the one on the second photo, it is from a children's clothing store called Cheeky, the one close to my mom's was decorated with all kinds of vintage toys, with one section full of vintage children's sewing machines, I was in heaven!

Este es mi moodboard/oda al disen~o de Buenos Aires.  La mayoria son etiquetas de ropa que compramos.  La que mas me gusta es la de la segunda foto, es de una casa de ropa para chicos que se llama Cheeky {si sos de Argentina, la debes conocer}, el negocio al que fuimos estaba todo decorado con juguetes antiguos y habia una seccion llena de maquinitas de coser, yo estaba en el paraiso!

And these are cards I made for some friends who I owe a swap or a thank you.  I hope they like them.  I have been very slow at answering emails, comments, blogs visits, etc.  Sorry!  I am trying to organize myself to do it faster.

Hice estas tarjetas para algunas amigas a las que les debo un agradecimiento o mi parte de un intercambio.  Espero que les gusten.  Soy bastante lenta para contestar emails, comentarios, visitar blogs, etc.  Perdon!  Estoy intentando organizarme para hacerlo mas rapido.

Nostalgia

I suffer from it, i know that the past is gone and the future, uncertain.  But I also know that a lot of what I am today has to do with my history.  As I look at my baby shoes, these aprons that i remember wearing to help my grandmother make pasta on Sundays, the little iron bed my mom brought all the way from Argentina {it collapses}, it was hers -she used to make her pet hen sleep on it, then mine and now it is Fiona's, I can't help but feeling a little nostalgic.   My mom made the bedding -inclulding the old fashion mattress and the thing that goes under it {I don't know the name} just before Fiona was born.
Jenny's photos of Buenos Aires are so beautiful and make me miss that crazy city a bit more, feeding the nostalgia.
I hope all these memories and experiences help to make Fiona's life a bit richer, that she can somehow connect with her past, feel a little caress as she plays with the doll bed, a little kiss from the older generations as she wears the aprons to help me cook and a little nod as she looks at the yellowing photos.
I wish you a week full of little moments of joy.

Sufro de nostalgia, se que el pasado ya paso y que el futuro es incierto, pero tambien se que mucho de lo que hoy soy tiene que ver con mi historia.  Cuando veo mis zapatitos de bebe, estos delantales que usaba para ayudar a mi abuela a hacer los n~oquis los domingos, la camita de hierro que mi mama trajo desde Argentina {se pliega}, fue de ella -donde hacia dormir a su gallina tapadita, despues mia y ahora es de Fiona, no puedo dejar de sentir un poco de nostalgia.  Mi mama le hizo toda la ropa de cama, incluido el colchon de estilo antiguo y lo que va abajo del colchon {que no se como se llama} justo antes que nazca Fiona.
Las fotos de Jenny, tan lindas, me hacen extran~ar a Buenos Aires todavia mas, alimentando la nostalgia.
Espero que todas estas vivencias y recuerdos ayuden a enriquecer la vida de mi hija, que se pueda conectar, de alguna manera, con su pasado, sentir una pequen~a caricia cuando juegue con la camita de las mun~ecas, un beso tierno de la generaciones pasadas cuando use los delantales para ayudarme a cocinar y una palmadita dulce cuando mire las fotos amarillentas de tanto existir.
Espero que tu semana este llena de pequen~os momentos felices.

Little things/Cositas

This is a little doggie that my sister gave to Fiona when we were in Buenos Aires, it is completely made of recycled products {can, lid, etc.}  You turn the handle and the doggie runs.  I think it is so sweet!

Este es un perrito que mi hermana le regalo a Fiona cuando estuvimos en Buenos Aires, esta hecho completamente de objetos reciclados {latitas, tapitas, etc}.  Das vuelta la manija y el perrito corre.  Me parece tan dulce!

And this is a little thank you collage I made for my mother in law.  She helped us so much while she was here - giving us our first night out to the movies in almost a year - and when we were in Miami.  I used a super cute photo of her.  I hope she likes it.

Y este es un collage de agradecimiento para mi suegra.  Ella nos ayudo tanto cuando vino a visitarnos - nos regalo nuestra primera {y unica} salida al cine desde que nacio Fiona - y cuando estuvimos en Miami.  Use una foto muy linda y tierna de ella cuando era chiquita. Espero que le guste.

Little treasures/Pequen~os tesoros

These are some of the little treasures I found in Buenos Aires during my visit.  There is a notions store in front of the square close to my mom's house and they are closing.  The owners are a cute old couple and the wife told me that her parents opened the store when she was 7 years old.  Everything was 40%off and I wanted it all!  They were selling the furniture too!
My mom is also a collector of all things old, so she gave me her crystals and beautiful lace.  She also gave me my worn out baby shoes, my kindergarten bag and lots of other outfits and fabrics.
I found this cute little Spanish/English dictionary at this antique fair.
And the last photo shows my most loved find, a child's sewing machine.  I just have to replace the needle and it works!  It was $27.
Now, my plan is to use all of this and not just stare at it.

Estos son algunos de los pequen~os tesoros que encontre en Buenos Aires.  Cerca de la casa de mi mama hay una merceria que esta cerrando.  Los duen~os son una pareja de viejitos amorosos y ella me dijo que los padres abrieron el negocio cuando ella tenia 7 an~os.  Todo tenia un 40% de descuento.  Como me hubiese gustado llevarme todo!  Vendian hasta los muebles!
A mi mama tambien le gusta coleccionar todo lo que sea antiguo, me dio sus caireles, algunas puntillas divinas, mis zapatitos de bebe gastados y la bolsita de jardin de infantes.
Tambien encontre este diccionario espan~ol/ingles que me enncanta en esta feria de antiguedades.
La ultima foto muestra mi objeto preferido, una maquinita de coser antigua que funciona!  Solo le tengo que poner una aguja nueva.  Me costo $27.
Mi plan ahora es usar todo esto y no solo quedarme mirandolo.

Buenos Aires

What a trip!  Not many expectations, just for Fiona to have a good time {and she did!} and a little birthday party {I can't believe she is one!}.There is so much I wan to say about my beloved city, but here are some highlights:

• The flowers:  blooming, everywhere, colour, smell.  True, beautiful spring.
• Palermo:  old neighborhood full of new stores with amazing design and vibe.
• Belgrano:  a classic, with its beautiful architecture.
• Walking everywhere, to the square, the stores, just walking.
• Fiona in the sidewalk greeting the people passing by.
• San Isidro:  its historic area, full of charm and beauty.
• The trees, oh the trees! 
• The rich interaction with people {I live in a relatively new city here in the US, where almost every store is a chain and people drive everywhere, I miss that human contact}
• The deer in my sister's friend's backyard playing with the dog and acting like one {they adopted her after her mother was killed}
• The guy walking by my mom's house with his dog on his shoulders {like a parrot}
• The smiles
• Fiona's face as everybody was clapping after she blew the candles.
• Downtown:  a whirlwind of fast pace.
• My mom being a grandma and my sister being an aunt.
• Talking to Sil on the phone.
• Meeting Andrea.  She has a great photo of us here.
• My friend Sole, being there for us always and her little girls playing with Fiona.
• All the birthday parties we attended, the children's faces and Fiona's joy to be surrounded by them.
• The food:  medialunas, milanesas, empanadas, mmmmm
• Seeing my city through Dave's eyes.
• It still feels like home.

Que viaje!  No teniamos muchas expectativas, solo que Fiona la pase bien {y lo hizo!} y hacerle una fiestita de cumplean~os {no puedo creer que ya tiene un an~o!}.
Tengo tanto pare decir de mi querida ciudad, pero aca van las cosas mas importantes:

• Las flores: en todos lados, el aroma, los colores.  Una verdadera primavera.
• Palermo: un barrio antiguo pero lleno de negocios nuevos de disen~adores jovenes y talentosos.
• Belgrano: un clasico, con su arquitectura sen~orial.
• Caminar por todos lados, a la plaza, a los negocios.  Caminar, caminar, caminar.
• Fiona en la vereda saludando a la gente que pasaba.
• San Isidro: con su zona historica, llena de personalidad y belleza.
• Los arboles.
• El contacto humano tan rico {yo vivo en una ciudad relativamente nueva en donde casi todos los negocios son en cadena y la gente usa el auto para ir a todos lados.  Extran~o ese ida y vuelta con la gente}.
• La ciervita en el jardin de la amiga de mi hermana, jugando con el perro como si ella tambien lo fuera {la adoptaron cuando alguien mato a la mama}
• El hombre que paso por el frente de la casa de mi mama llevando a su perrito en los hombros {como si fuera un loro}.
• Las sonrisas.
• La carita de Fiona cuando todos la aplaudian despues de soplar las velitas.
• El centro: com un torbellino de actividad.
• Ver a mi mama ser abuela y a mi hermana ser tia.
• Hablar con Sil por telefono.
• Encontrarme con Andrea.  Ella tiene una foto linda de nosotras aca.
• Mi amiga Sole, con la que mantenemos una amistad larga y lindisima.  Sus dos hijitas jugando con Fiona.
• Todas las fiestitas de cumplean~os a las que fuimos, las caritas de los chicos.  La alegria de Fiona al estar rodeada de chicos.
• La comida:  medialunas, milanesas, empanadas...mmmmmm
• Ver a mi ciudad a traves de los ojos de Dave.
• Sentirme en casa.

Buenos Aires

Risa posted the first comment ever on this blog yesterday, thank you!  And she mentioned that she is going to visit Buenos Aires {where I am from} next spring.  That made me nostalgic, I always miss BA.  So, I was looking through the photos of our trips there and remembered this antique fair that is held every weekend in a recycled train station.  I loved it and here is one of my favorite pics of that trip.  I am there, in the middle wearing a long jean skirt.  And all those things hanging from the ceiling are chandeliers.  It was a great day!

Risa dejo el primer comentario en este blog ayer, gracias Risa!  En el comentario ella dice que va a ir a Buenos Aires la primavera proxima.  Eso me puso un poco nostalgica, siempre extran~o BA.  Entonces me puse a mirar albunes de fotos de nuestros viajes y me acorde de la feria de antiguedades de la estacion del Tren de la Costa {una estacion reciclada}.  Me encanta esa feria, aca va una de las fotos de ese viaje.  Ahi estoy yo, en el medio, con una pollera de jean larga.  Y todas esas cosas colgando del techo son lamparas/aran~as antiguas.  Que lindo dia!
