in the kitchen

hi!  the heat has come to stay here in the desert and i am trying to get used to it because we will have more of it for months to come.  it is time to change schedules and stay inside more.  i will miss my long walks with nube in the morning.

hola!  acá, en el desierto, ya llegó el calor intenso para quedarse por unos cuantos meses.  yo trato, como todos los años, de acostumbrarme.  ya es tiempo de cambiar la rutina y pasar más tiempo adentro.  voy a extrañar mis caminatas largas con nube a la mañana.

i have taken a little break from making things after morther's day, so i just wanted to show you this little corner of my kitchen. an old metal box and my collection of cake and cupcake decorations in jam jars.

ya que no estuve haceindo muchas cosas desde el día de la madre, te quería mostrar este rinconcito de la cocina. una cajonera de metal antigua y mi colección de adornitos para tortas y cupcakes en frascos de mermelada.

collection

my collection of vintage pins is growing and they were scattered in boxes and on my nightsand, so i hang some vintage ribbon and voilà, now they are all together and i can see them every day.

mi colección de prendedores vintage está creciendo, pero estaban repartidos en cajas y en mi mesa de luz, asique colgué una cinta antigua y voilà, ahora estan todos juntos y los puedo very todos los dias.

new pillows

i found this beautiful fabric a while back and fiona has been asking me to make a pillow for her room ever since, so i did:

encontré esta tela tan linda hace un tiempito y fiona me viene pidiendo que le haga un almohadón para su cama desde que la vió, cumplí sus 'órdenes' este fin de semana.

display of christmas cards (love them!), we don't put our christmas stuff down until the wise men come (hopefully tonite if fiona's gift gets here!)

here are some moments of our christmas.  it was the three of us (and nube and his friend scout), a relaxing weekend with each other.

estas son algunas imágenes de nuestra navidad. los tres (y nube y su amiguita scout) pasamos un fin de semana tranquilo, disfrutando de nuestra pequeña familia.

fiona and i have a little obsession with kokeshi dolls.  and i got my favourite cook book, i had gotten it many times from the library and now i have my own!.

fiona y yo estamos un poquito obsesionadas con las muñequitas kokeshi.  también se puede ver mi libro de cocina preferido.  ya lo había sacado de la biblioteca tantas veces, pero ahora tengo mi propia copia!

fiona is a fan of scooby-doo and polly pockets, she got both (and a microphone!)

i love my new wrist warmers!

bits and pieces sunday

i was inspired by this beautiful blog's posts (that i recently discovered and love).  she does it on fridays, but i thought i would have more time to capture little life's details on sunday, if we are around the house.  so i will be posting bits and pieces sporadically.

enontré la inspiración en este blog tan lindo (que acabo de descubrir y me encanta).  ella lo hace los viernes, pero a mi me parecen mejor los domingos, si estamos en casa, para poder descubrir los pequeños detalles de nuestra vida.  asique voy a postear 'bits and pieces' esporádicamente.

hi!  did you have a nice weekend?  we did.  fiona and i sewed together for the first time!  we made a few bows.  she chose the fabric and the ribbon, cut it, sat on my lap at the machine and guided the fabric (she doesn't reach the pedal yet), and stuffed it.  i loved to see how proud of herself she was.  i am thinking of passing this machine to her, but want to make sure she knows the basics first.

hola!  como estuvo tu fin de semana?  el nuestro fue lindo.  fiona y yo cosimos juntas por primera vez!  hicimos unos moñitos.  ella eligió la tela y la cinta, las cortó y se sentó en mi falda en frente de la máquina y empujó la tela (no llega al pedal todavía) y lo rellenó.  que linda su carita de orgullo durante todo el proceso!  estoy pensando en pasarle esta máquina para que use, pero primero quiero que sepa las cosas básicas.

 

it is so cold here, but the little plants had to get some water and more sun, so i took them outside.  here are some in detail.

hace mucho frío, pero las plantitas tenían que tomar agua y sol, asique las saqué un rato.  acá van algunas en detalle. 

i think they make great teacher's gifts and they would look so beautiful as a cluster for a centerpiece for a wedding or a party.  what do you think?

me parece que son un buen regalo para la mestra para fin de año o, unas cuantas juntas quedarían lindísimas como centro me mesa para un casamiento o fiesta.  que te parece?

i am still working hard, but i wanted to take a break show you a couple of pillows i made for the fair.

sigo trabajando a mil, pero me tomo un recreito para mostrarte unos almohadones que hice para la feria.

i made this one with vintage fabric i found at the rose bowl flea in california and pom pom trim.  this was hard to sew!  so bumpy, but i love how it looks!

esta tela es vintage, la encontré cuando fuimos a california la última vez, le agregué una cinta de pompones alrededor.  que difícil coser esta tela!  pero me encanta como quedó.

this fabric is so happy!  i did ric rac trim on this one.  they look cute together, no?  back to work!

esta tela es tan alegre!  a este almohadoncito le agregué ric rac.  quedan lindos los dos juntos, no?  me voy a seguir!
