wishing for the holidays/mis deseos para las fiestas

We are going to be with family for the holidays, so I am signing off for a few days, but first I wanted to wish all of petunia's visitors the most wonderful holidays. 

Nos vamos a pasar las fiestas en familia, asique no voy a estar por aca por unos dias, pero primero queria desearles a todos los que visitan petunia unas muy, muy super-felices fiestas.

I made these with paper doilies, inspired by the cover of marie claire idees.

Hice estos adornos con carpetas de papel, encontre la inspiracion en la tapa de la revista marie claire idees.

And this is a wip that may not happen.  I am not crazy about the way I constructed the stockings {that happens when you are in a hurry}, so I don't know if I am going to use one of my favourite vintage ribbons on them.  It was a challenge to sew velvet, there is fuzz all over the house!

Y esto es un proyecto por terminar que muy probablemente no se termine.  No me gusta como cosi las botas {eso pasa cuando se hacen las cosas a las apuradas}, asique no se si usar una de mis cintas viejitas preferidas ellas.  Coser el terciopelo fue dificil y la casa esta llena de peluzas!

Though the combination of the velvet with the silver is really beautiful.  We'll see...

Aunque la combinacion del terciopelo con el color plata de la cinta es muy linda.  Vamos a ver...

just breathe/respira

Hi, my friends!  It has been a busy week, busy and nerve wrecking.  And...I am trying to become friends with my curly hair again =}. But things are slowing down, I know it.  I am posting this photo because it reminds me to breathe, to come back to the present, don't know why.

Hola!  que semana mas movida!  Movida y estresante.  Y...me estoy tratando de amigar con mis rulos de nuevo=}.  Pero ya esta pasando todo, lo se.   Cuando miro esta foto me acuerdo de respirar, de volver al presente, no se porque.  Por eso la puse.

it makes me happy.../me hace feliz...

to go to the farmer's market on Wednesdays, to buy fresh vegetables and fruits, to cook for my family {almost} every night, to hear Fiona and Dave's voices while I am cooking, when Dave tries the food and tells me "this is great, babe" {even if it is the millionth time I cooked it, he always appreciates it, truly the light of my life}.

ir a la feria los miercoles y comprar verduras y frutas frescas, cocinar para mi familia {casi} todas las noches, escuchar las voces de Fiona y Dave mientras cocino, cuando Dave prueba la comida y me dice "esto esta buenisimo, babe" {aunque sea la millonesima vez que hago el mismo plato, siempre me agradece, es realmente la luz de mi vida}.

Little Corners/Rinconcitos

I covered some light switch plates a while ago and thought it would be fun to photograph them in their environments.  Here is where they 'live':  Fiona's room, by the front door, my bedroom, living room.  Love is in the details, right?  More Corners of my Home here.

Forre las placas de las llaves de luz hace un tiempito y me parecio interesante fotografiarlas en sus "ambientes".  Estos son los lugares donde viven:  cuarto de Fiona, al lado de la puerta de entrada, mi dormitorio y el living.  El amor existe en los detalles, no?  Mas Ricones de mi Casa aca.

This is my work space, well, it is mostly my storage because it is the closet in Fiona's room {we only have two bedrooms}, when she is awake I don't get much done and when she is asleep I can't make noises there.  So the work happens in the dining room. 
We bought the whole system {shelves, drawers, etc.}, the table and the curtains at Ikea and it works really well. 
It also serves as guest closet, I fold down the table, move the chair and voila!
When the space is messy and don't want people to see it I just close the curtains.  What you see on the right is a chest of drawers that also serves as changing table {everything multitasks in this house}.

Este es mi 'taller', bueno, es donde guardo mis cosas, porque es el closet del cuarto de Fiona {tenemos solamente dos dormitorios} y cuando esta despierta no puedo hacer mucho y cuando esta dormida no puedo hacer ruido.  Asique trabajo en el comedor.
Este lugar tambien sirve como closet para huespedes, bajo la mesa plegadiza, saco la silla y voila!
Si la mesa esta desordenada y no quiero que las visitas la vean, cierro las cortinas y listo.  Lo que ves a la derecha de la foto es una comoda que tambien sirve de cambiador {todo tiene muchas funciones en esta casa}.

Por supuesto, suen~o con un espacio asi, con colores suaves y cajas, canastas y otras cosas vintage.  Estas paginas son de la ultima revista Country Living.

And this is from my space again, I embroidered the curtain ties and I liked the embroidery so much that I did something very similar in my bitty booties.

Y este es mi espacio de nuevo, borde los lazos para atar la cortina y me gusto tanto el motivo que hice algo muy similar en las botitas de bebe.

Little corner/Ricnoncito

In my bedroom, some of the eye glasses I have been collecting for the last few years.  In the mirror reflection, my necklaces hanging from my favourite hook with millinery flowers, a lamp we bought at a garage sale, Dave's painting, an old purse with an old brooch, a box I decorated, and my pillow.  I love  Corners of my Home posts, they allow me to see my things, little treasures, my environment with new eyes.

En mi cuarto, algunos de los anteojos que vengo coleccionando en los ultimos an~os.  En el espejo, mis collares colgando del gancho con flores de tela que me encanta, la lampara que compramos en un garage sale, el cuadro que pinto Dave, una cartera antigua con un prendedor antiguo, una caja que decore y mi almohada.  Me encantan los posts de Rincones de mi Casa porque me permiten ver mis cosas, los pequen~os tesoros, mi ambiente, con una mirada nueva.

I gave a talk about prenatal Yoga Friday night {I don't know if I mentioned before that I am a Yoga teacher}, and felt I didn't have anything to wear {anything new, that is}, so in an effort to save money and stop accumulating stuff I decided to embroider one of my t-shirts.  I love it!  Now I want to embroider all my shirts, t-shirts, pants, and skirts but maybe that is too much...

El viernes di una charla sobre el Yoga prenatal {soy profesora de Yoga, no se si lo dije antes aqui} y no tenia nada que ponerme {nada nuevo}, entonces, para ahorrar dinero y dejar de acumular cosas, decidi bordar una de mis remeras.  Me encanto!  Ahora quiero bordar todas mis camisas, remeras, pantalones, faldas, etc, pero tal vez es demasiado...

This mirror and this vintage ladybug toy were two of the first gifts Dave gave me when we started dating.  I like how they look together and I like how they look in our room.  Though now the ladybugs are almost always on the floor and the mirror has permanent little fingerprints on it.

Este espejo y este juguete de vaquitas de san antonio son unos de los primeros regalos que me hizo Dave cuando empezamos a salir.  Me gusta como quedan juntos y como quedan en mi cuarto.  Aunque ahora las vaquitas estan casi siempre en el piso y el espejo tiene huellas de deditos marcadas casi permanentemente.

A couple of years ago Dave went to take photos or look for rocks...I don't remember, to an empty lot close to our house and he found this piece of wood.  It says made in Argentina {and just in case you didn't know, I am from Argentina} and it is so surprising to me because there isn't a big Argentinian population where I live.  It seems to be a part of a box, but I don't know of what. I think it may be wine.
Anyway, he brought it home and we varnished it and now it hangs in a corner of our home.

Hace un par de an~os Dave fue a un terreno descampado cerca de casa a sacar fotos o a buscar piedras...una de dos, no me acuerdo.  Lo curioso es que encontro esta madera que dice 'Made in Argentina', lo que me sorprende es que donde yo vivo no viven muchos argentinos.  Parece que es parte de una caja, pero no se de que, me parece que de vinos.
La cosa es que la trajo a casa, la barnizamos y ahora esta colgada en un rincon de nuestra casa.

 

And we finally finished the freezer paper stencil t-shirt!  Well, actually Dave did while I was at the dentist yesterday {ugh!}.  We based the stencil on this picture. I think it looks great and now I want one.

Pasando a otro tema, finalmente terminamos la remera con el estencil de papel de freezer!.  Bueno, la termino Dave ayer, cuando yo estaba en el dentista {puaj!}. Para hacer el estencil nos basamos en esta foto.  Me parece que quedo muy bien y ahora quiero una para mi.

Letters and corners/Cartas y rincones

I've had these letters that my grandparents wrote to each other for a while now.  They were written between 1940 and 1941.  One bundle of her letters to him, one bundle of his letters to her, still wrapped with the same string.  When they were dating they lived in two different provinces and it seems that they missed each other very much.  They also had kind of a Romeo and Juliet romance, my grandma's parents didn't like my grandpa very much.
I treasure them because I don't have many things left from my grandparents, how I would love to have my grandma's sewing machine!  and her aprons!  and her cooking skills!  Oh, well, I still have the beautiful memories of my childhood with them. 

Hace un tiempo que tengo estas cartas de mis abuelos.  Las escribieron entre 1940 y 1941.  Un paquetito de las cartas de ella para el, otro con las cartas de el para ella, atados con el mismo cordon con que las recibi.  Cuando estaban de novios vivian en dos provincias di stintas {Cordoba y Bs. As.} y parece que se extran~aban mucho.  Tambien parece que tuvieron un romance tipo Romeo y Julieta, a los padres de mi abuela no le gustaba mi abuelo.
Yo cuido estas cartas como si fueran de oro porque no tengo muchas cosas de mis abuelos.  Como me gustaria tener la maquina de coser de mi abuela!  y los delantales y su mano para la cocina!   Bueno, pero tengo los recuerdos de mi infancia con ellos.

These are a couple of photos of them.  Thankfully, I also have several photos.  The first one is their civil wedding {look at the wallpaper, the hair, the hats, the dark lips, the way the pictures are hanging!},they are standing in the center of the picture, and I guess the second one is in the port of Buenos Aires.

Estas son un par de fotos de las muchas que tengo {por suerte!}.  La primera es la del casamiento por civil {mira el empapelado, los peinados, los sombreros, los labios oscurisimos, como estan colgados los cuadros!}, ellos estan en el medio del grupo y me parece que la segunda es en el puerto en Bs.As.

And this is what Dave and I made with the letters.  Well, not the actual letters, I can't bring myself to use them like that.  I made photocopies and then we stained them with tea and glued them.  We used an old frame from an antique store and painted it.  If I ever have my own room to create I would love to use it as an inspiration board.  Now it lives in our bedroom with some of my friends' babies photos and other things that I like.

Esto es lo que hicimos con las cartas.  Bueno, no las cartas, cartas, porque no quiero ni puedo usarlas asi.  Hicimos fotocopias y las ten~imos con te y despues las pegamos.  Usamos un marco que encontramos en una casa de antiguedades y lo pintamos.  Si alguna vez tengo mi propio espacio para crear, me gustaria usarlo como una cartelera de inspiracion.  Ahora vive en nuestro dormitorio, con fotos de los bebes de algunos amigos y otras cosas lindas.

Here is another corner of our home, the fireplace in the living room.  I've been collecting mirrors for a while and we thought they would look good here when we moved to this house {after painting}.  Pretty soon we'll have to remove everything from the floor because a little person is already crawling and grabbing things.  I guess this photo will be a good memory of our decorating style pre-Fiona.

Este es otro rincon de nuestra casa, el hogar en el living.  Yo vengo coleccionando espejos hace un tiempo y nos parecio que quedarian bien en este lugar cuando nos mudamos a esta casa {despues de pintar}.  Muy pronto vamos a tener que sacar todo lo que esta en el piso porque una personita ya gatea y quiere tocar todo.  Supongo que esta foto va a ser un buen recuerdo de nuestro estilo de decoracion pre-Fiona.
