a little peek

just a little peek of what i have been working on, our mother's day matching outfits!  tomorrow we have a mother's day tea at school, so fiona and i will be matching and enjoying each other.

una pequeña muestra de lo que estuve haciendo, la ropita haciendo juego para el día de la madre!  mañana tenemos el té para festejar el día de la madre (que acá es el domingo) en el cole de fiona, asique vamos a celebrar juntas y combinadas!

mama made

this little girl is growing so much!  most of her clothes don't fit her anymore, it means that mama better get sewing!

esta chiquita está creciendo tanto!  la ropa casi no le entra, eso quiere decir que mejor que mamá se ponga a coser!

here she is with her new skirt and her new scooter (that she bought with her own savings).

acá está con su nueva falda y su monopatín nuevo (que compró con sus ahorros)

i've had these two fabrics for a while and thought they would look cute together, she requested pockets in all the skirts i make her from now on.

hace tiempo que tengo estas telas y me pareció que iban a quedar lindas juntas, ella pidió que todas las faldas que le haga tengan bolsillo.

it gives me such satisfaction to make her clothes that she likes to wear.  not much compares to the feeling of seeing her go to school with something i made her with my hands and my love.

me dá tanta alegría hacerle ropita que le guste y quiera usar.  no hay muchas cosas que me den tanto orgullo como verla irse al cole con algo que le hice con mis manos y con amor de mamá.

fake cake

i finally made this fake cake for fiona's school.  it is made with styrofoam rounds and royal icing.  fiona's teacher had asked me a few months ago (yes, a few months!) to make it to celebrate birthdays in the class with a cake (minus the sugar) and i have put it off this long.  don't know exactly why it took me this long, maybe it was the fact that i had never worked with royal icing, it was intimidating, but i have to work on diving right in to what scares me, a lesson learned. 

al fin hice esta torta de mentira para el cole de fiona.  está hecha con círculos de telgopor y cobertura 'royal'.  la maestra de fiona me preguntó si la podía hacer hace ya unos meses (si, meses!) para celebrar los cumpleaños de los chicos con torta (pero sin azúcar) y me llevó todo este tiempo empezar a hacerla.  no sé exactamente porqué fuí dejando pasar los meses, puede ser porque nunca trabajé con esta cobertura y me daba un poco de miedo.  pero aprendí que tengo que 'tirarme a la pileta' y hacer las cosas que me dan miedo enseguida, sino son como nubes negras que me acompañan todo el tiempo.

it wasn't as challenging as i imagined, but the icing dries and hardens very fast, so you have to work quickly.  well, now it is done, maybe the kids in next year's class can enjoy it.  has it ever happened to you that you put off something for so long that then it is even embarassing to do it?  i have to say, it is late, but i am happy i did it.

no fué tan difícil como pensé, pero esta cobertura se seca y endurece enseguida, asique hay que trabajar rápido.  bueno, tal vez los chicos del próximo año la puedan disfrutar.  alguna vez te pasó que tardaste tanto en hacer algo que al final hasta te da vergüeza?  tengo que admitir que me llevó muchísmo tiempo empezar, pero al final estoy contenta de haberla hecho.

tooth fairy

this little girl lost her first tooth this weekend and my friend nostalgia came to visit.  i couldn't help but thinking about when we came back home from the hospital with this tiny baby that we had created but didn't know much what to do with (well, dave knew a bit more, his brother is 10 years younger than him).  and now, she lost her tooth, she will start first grade soon...time really flies.

a esta chiquita se le cayó el primer diente este fin de semana y mi amiga la nostalgia me vino a visitar.  no pude dejar de acordarme cuando volvimos del hospital con una bebita mínima que habíamos creado, pero no teníamos mucha idea que hacer con ella (bueno, dave tenía un poquito más de idea, tiene un hermano que es diez años menor).   y ahora, se le cayó el primer diente, pronto va a empezar primer grado...el tiempo realmente vuela.

and, because every ocassion is a good ocassion to craft (and hopefully leave her with something that says that i care and i love her), i made her this tooth pillow with a pocket for her to put her teeth in so the toothfairy could get it.  i used vintage linen for both the pillow and the pocket.

y, porque cualquier ocasión es buena para crear (y para dejarle un recuerdo que le diga que la quiero), le hice este almohadoncito con bolsillo para poner el diente y que el ratón perez lo encuentre.  usé telas vintage para el almohadón y el bolsillito.

the toothfairy was very generous and brought her some money, floss sticks and a nice letter. (thanks to my friends who answered me with amazingly good ideas when i asked how much the toothfairy pays these days).  some ideas:  a new toothbrush, floss, a nice note from the toothfairy encouraging them to brush and floss everyday, sprinkle the money with some glitter and iron it between two washclothes...

el ratón perez fue muy generoso y le trajo plata, hilito dental y una carta. (gracias a todos mis amigos que me contestaron con ideas buenísimas cuando les pregunté cuanto 'paga' el ratón perez!).  acá van a algunas de las ideas:  un cepillo de dientes nuevo, hilo dental, una carta del ratón diciéndoles que tienen que cepillar y pasar el hilo dental todos los dias para que vuelva cuando se caiga el próximo dientito, poner un poco de brillantina en los billetes y plancharlos entre dos toallitas para que se pegue y parezca un poco más 'mágico'...

she is so proud and can't stop smiling big so her new little 'window' shows.

ella está tan contenta y orgullosa que no puede parar de sonreir y mostar su nueva 'ventanita'.

bunnies

here are mama and daughter bunnies i made as easter gifts for fiona.

acá estan las conejitas mamá e hija que le hice de regalo a fiona para pascuas.

i used this great tutorial as a base and added some other touches.

usé este tutorial como base y le agregué unos detallitos más.

the little one has her baby chick doll in her arms (made with a tiny pom pom), flowery skirt and a flower in her hair.  both mama and daughter arms and legs are made with vintage cotton pipe cleaners that i got on etsy.

la chiquita tiene su muñeco pollito en los brazos (hecho con un pom pom mini), faldita floreada y una flor en el pelo.  a los brazos y las piernas de la mamá e hijita los hice con limpia pipas de algodón vintage.

mama is holding flowers in her arms, and has a detail of ribbon in her skirt (the baby has ric rac in hers)

la mamá tiene un ramito de flores en los brazos y el detalle de cinta en la falda (la beba también tiene una cintita en la cintura).

and this is fiona's little bunny.  she made it for her teacher.  this one may be my favourite with her ears down and messy fur.

y esta es la conejita que hizo fiona para su maestra.  me parece que es mi favorita, con sus orejitas para abajo y el pelo desordenado.

worry dolls

i made a few more worry doll necklaces.  i love how they can help little ones with their fears.  now in the shop.

hice unos collares con muñequitas quitapenas.  me encanta como pueden ayudar a los chiquitos con sus miedos.  los podés encontrar en la tienda.

a friend is going through a very difficult time. she requested this word a while ago, and for one reason or another we didn't make it. this was time.  she really liked it.

una amiga está pasando por un momento muy difícil.  ella nos pidió que le hagamos esta palabra hace un tiempito y, por distintas razones, no la hicimos.  este era el momento.  le encantó.
