hi!  hope you had a wonderful weekend.  i thought i would start the week by showing you some of the second hand treasures i found in the last months.

hola!  espero que hayas pasado un fin de semana muy lindo.  me pareció que sería bueno empezar la semana mostrando algunos de los tesoros de segunda mano que encontré en los últimos meses.

i fell in love with this necklace, with a round neck sweater, or even a t-shirt, this could look so nice.

collection

my collection of vintage pins is growing and they were scattered in boxes and on my nightsand, so i hang some vintage ribbon and voilà, now they are all together and i can see them every day.

mi colección de prendedores vintage está creciendo, pero estaban repartidos en cajas y en mi mesa de luz, asique colgué una cinta antigua y voilà, ahora estan todos juntos y los puedo very todos los dias.

our weekend

hi!  we had a great weekend.  saturday morning we took fiona to ballet class and then had lunch at our now favourite hole in the wall restaurant, i think the fortunes are for sure trying to tell dave and i something:

among all of that, i still managed to find these two amazing hand embroidered mexican dresses for fiona and me.

entre todo eso, igual pude encontrar estos dos vestidos mexicanos bordados a mano para fiona y para mi.  no son lindísimos?

i found these little cups the other day at the thrift store, they are so cute!  does anybody know what they are?  i love them no matter what, but would like to know what era they are from and if they were part of a bigger collection.

encontré estas tacitas en el negocio de cosas usadas el otro día, son tan lindas!  alguien sabe qué son?  me encantan de cualquier manera, pero me gustaría saber de que era son y si son parte de una colección mas grande.

i hope you are having a good wednesday.  i have to admit that today has been challenging.  staying at home with your child is incredibly rewarding sometimes and sometimes it can be extremely hard.  today i am looking forward to school starting again.  don't get me wrong, i love her more than anything and i feel like a bad mother saying that but those few hours of time in the morning make such a difference to me.  i read and hear and know so many mothers that have two or more kids, they homeschool, they make stuff, always cook dinner (with organic ingredients, of course). i admire these women and i wonder if i am deffective somehow.  does this ever happen to you?  sorry for venting, tomorrow will be a better day.

espero que estes pasando un buen miércoles.  tengo que admitir que hoy es un día difícil.  quedarse en casa con los chicos te da tantas satisfacciones a veces y a veces es increíblemente difícil.  hoy no veo la hora que empicen las clases de nuevo.  me siento como una mala madre diciendo esto, pero esas horas a la mañana hacen una gran diferencia para mi.  leo y conozco otras madres que tienen dos o más hijos, los educan en casa, hacen manualidades, siempre cocinan (con todos ingredientes orgánicos, por supuesto).  admiro a esas madres y me pregunto si salí mal de fábrica.  te pasa alguna vez?  perdón por las confesiones, mañana será un día mejor.

let me tell you a secret:  i dream of having a little store one day, where you can come and get some tea and pastries and it is full of handmade things, some evenings we would have acoustic, intimate concerts, others we would have talks and classes.  i would have a space in the back to create.  i dream of decorating the little store and displaying all the beautiful handmade things.  there would be old furniture re-painted and brought to new life.  none of the chairs would match.  every table would have a little succulent plant on it...

te cuento un secreto:  sueño con tener mi propio negocio algún día, un espacio no muy grande donde se pueda tomar un té y comer cosas ricas y que esté lleno de cosas hechas a mano.  algunos dias tendríamos conciertos íntimos y acústicos, otros charlas y clases.  atrás del negocio yo tendría un espacio para crear.  sueño con decorarlo y acomodar todas las cosas lindísimas hechas a mano.  en el negocio todos los muebles son de segunda mano, los pintaría y les daría una nueva vida.  ninguna de las sillas son iguales y cada mesa tendría su propia plantita...

that's why i love setting up for the fairs i do, for a few hours i have my own little store.  this one was this last saturday, i was lucky to be in the sun.

sorry for my absence this week, fiona is on summer vacation, and i am trying to be present for her.  fiona runs around the house with all the energy she holds in her little body, she jumps, does cart wheels, rolls, sometimes she sings, sometimes she dances and she is almost always talking (unless i ask her a specific question and her answer is generally "i don't know").  she tells me things about school, her friends, tv shows and life in general.  sometimes my mind is far away with thoughts, sometimes i am immersed on a blog, book or an image on the computer, sometimes i am cleaning the house, and sometimes i want quiet...but i try, i try to be here for her and i hope she feels it.  being her mother is still (and i suspect will always be) the biggest lesson in my life.

perdón por mi ausencia esta semana, fiona está de vacaciones y yo estoy tratando de estar presente para ella.  fiona corre por la casa con toda la energía que acumula en su cuerpito, salta, hace piruetas, rueda por el suelo, a veces canta, a veces baila, casi siempre esta hablando (a no ser que le pregunte algo específico, en cuyo caso la respuesta es casi siempre "no me acuerdo") .  me cuenta cosas del colegio, de sus amigos, de algún programa de la tele o una película, de la vida en general.  a veces estoy ausente, pensando cosas, a veces estoy concentrada en algo que estoy leyendo o en una imágen en la computadora, a veces estoy limpiando y, a veces mi mente me pide silencio...pero trato, trato de volver a ese momento, de escucharla, de demostrarle que estoy.  quiero que sienta que hago lo mejor que puedo.  ser madre sigue siendo la lección de mi vida, nunca dejo de aprender.

 

 

old and new

here is my challenge: i now realize that i am a collector.  i love vintage things, i enjoy living surrounded with things that have history, that have been loved before they arrived in my life.  BUT we live in a relaively small house and i have to be very creative to keep them all and not feel crowded.  i also love the simplicity that comes from sparse spaces (though i don't know if i could live in them).  and i know that sometimes too many things can weigh you down...

at the same time, i am a very visual and tactile person, i love the texture, look and feel of these things.  they bring joy to my every day life, warmth to my home, and the daily chores less of a "chore".  and that is very important in my view. i also feel that i am selective in my gathering, i try to only bring home things that truly speak to me and are good quality. 

here are some things i have been collecting in the last few months, they are all old and inexpensive, found on etsy, thrift stores and flea markets:

 

aca va mi problema:  me gusta coleccionar.  me encantan las cosas antiguas, me encanta vivir rodeada de cosas que tienen historia, que fueron queridas y usadas antes de llegar a mi vida.  PERO, vivimos en una casa que es relativamente chica y tengo que usar toda mi creatividad para organizarlas y no sentirnos como invadidos. también me gustan los ambientes simples y despojados.  y se que a veces las cosas pueden empezar a pesar demasiado en nuestras vidas...

a la vez, yo soy una persona muy tactil y visual, me gusta la textura, el color, el estilo de todas estas cosas.  realmente hacen que el día a día sea más placentero, la rutina menos rutinaria, los ambientes más cálidos.  para mi, eso es muy importante.  también tengo que aclarar que soy selectiva en mis "adquicisiones", trato de traer a casa sólo las cosas que me encantan, que no son caras y son de buena calidad.
