2 tutorials

hi!  here i am, i have been busy with nostalgia resources and we also moved, i will show pictures of the house once is not a mess of boxes.  but i have been able to do two tutorials:

hola!  aca estoy, estuve ocupada con nostalgia resources y, además nos mudamos! ya voy a poner fotos de la casa nueva cuando no sea un terremoto de cajas.  pero tuve tiempo para publicar dos tutoriales:

 

this one if for place cards (or any other cards).  you can see it here

este tutorial es de tarjetas para que los invitados de una reunión o fiesta encuentren sus lugares en las mesas (pero se puede usara para otro tipo de evento, cumpleaños, etc).  lo podés ver aca.

 

and this one is for making ring pillows (but could be for any other pillow too!  tooth pillow anyone?).  you can see it here.

este segundo tutorial es para hacer almohadoncitos para los anillos en un casamiento, pero se puede usara para hacer cualquier tipo de almohadón. lo podés ver acá.

diy: volcano!

hi!  fiona and i made a volcano this weekend.  i had already seen this at fiona's school, the kids go crazy when the volcano 'erupts'!.  so last week i found a book of activities at the thrift store with the explanation for the experiment and it reminded both of us of how much fun it is.  here are some photos and a diy for you:

hola!  fiona y yo hicimos un volcán este fin de semana.  yo ya había visto este experimento en el cole de fiona (a los chicos les encanta cuando el volcán 'erupciona'!).  la semana pasada encontré un libro de actividades para chicos en el negocio de segunda mano que traía las explicaciones para este experimento y nos hizo acordar lo divertido que es.  acá van algunas fotos y las instrucciones:

materials:

• jar
• measuring cup
• baking soda
• vinegar
• detergent
• food coloring
• water
• sand, mud or clay

materiales

• frasco
• recipiente para medir
• bicarbonato de sodio
• vinagre
• detergente
  
• colorante de comida
• agua
• arena, tierra o arcilla

make a mountain (with sand, mud or clay), put your jar on top and keep building it around it.

hacé una montaña (con arena, tierra o arcilla), poné el frasco arriba y seguí armando la montaña alrededor del frasco.

when the volcano is ready, put three or four small spoonfuls of baking soda in the jar.

cuando el volcán este listo, poné tres o cuatro cucharaditas de bicarbonato de sodio en el frasco.

mix together one half cup of water, one fourth of a cup of detergent, a fourth of a cup of vinegar and some food coloring.  pour the mixture into the jar and..

mezclá una taza de agua con un cuarto de taza de detergente, un cuarto de taza de vinagre y el colorante.  volcá la mezcla en el frasco y...

lava starts pouring out of the volcano!

el volcán empieza a erupcionar!  con lava y todo!

turorial: embroidered cards *** tutorial: tarjetas bordadas

i put together this tutorial on my embroidered tags.  you will need a little imagination, some patience and the following supplies:

aca va el tutorial para hacer mis tarjetitas bordadas.  vas a necesitar un poco de imaginación, otro poquito de paciencia y estos materiales:

• tags/tarjetitas
• stamp/sello
• pencil/lápiz
• metallic emboidery floss/hilo para bordar metálico
• scissors (not shown in this pic)/tijera
• embroidery needle/aguja

here we go:

acá vamos:

stamp the tag.  of course, you can use any stamp you have and make your own design.

sellá la tarjetita.  por supuesto, podés usar los sellos que tengas para crear tu propio diseño.

draw the design that you would like to embroider.  or you can use part of the stamp as a guide to your embroidery, like here.

dibujá lo que quieras bordar.  o, podés usar parte del sello como guía para el bordado, como estas.

make little holes around the design where the thread is going to go.  i used a needle.

hacé agujeritos en el diseño donde va a ir el hilo.  yo usé una aguja.

embroider.  make a knot on the thread and start at the back of the tag, being careful because metallic thread is a little bit trickier than regular embroidery thread, it gets tangled more easily, always check the back.

a bordar.  hacé un nudo en el hilo y empezá por la parte de atrás de la tarjeta, con cuidado porque el hilo metálico se enrieda más facilmente que los otros, siempre fijate en la parte de atrás, que esté prolija.

finish the embroidery and make a knot (also in the back).  you can add ribbon to the tag and another blank tag in the back to write a message.

terminá el bordado con un nudo (en la parte de atrás).  le podés agregar una cinta y otra tarjetita en blanco para escribir un mensaje.

i think they would look cute attached to a present or by themselves as unique christmas cards.  if you don't feel like making them though, you can buy them at my store.

me parece que quedarían muy lindas como parte del envoltorio de un regalo, o solas, como tarjetas de navidad originales.  si no tenés ganas de hacerlas, las podés comprar en mi tienda.

tutorial: guiding stars *** tutorial: estrellas que guian

just in case you missed it, this is a little tutorial i put together last year.

por las dudas si no lo viste, este es un tutorial que publiqué la última navidad.

 

 

 

so here i am with the promised tutorial for the stars i made last week for fiona's class:

aca estoy con el tutorial de las estrellas que hice la semana pasada para los chicos de la clase de fiona:

 

materials   ***   materiales

• felt (i used wool felt because it is thicker, but you can use regular felt, i recommend darker colours so they are not so see through)
• beads (with a hole big enough to thread your string)
• string or twine
• textile, craft or regular glue
• sissors

• fieltro/pañolenci
• cuentas de colores
• hilo encerado u otro
• goma de pegar
• tijera

 

 step 1   ***   paso 1

fold your felt in half and draw your star (i did it freehand because i like that they all look a bit different, but if you want a more uniformed look you can draw a star on a piece of cardboard, cut it and use that as a pattern)

dobla el fieltro/pañolenci en dos y dibujá la estrella (yo las dibujé a todas a mano porque me gusta que no sean todas iguales, pero si querés podés dibujar una estrella en cartón, cortarla y usarla de molde, para que te queden todas mas parejitas)

 

step 2   ***   paso 2

cut the stars (you will have two from the folded felt)

cortá las estrellas (vas a tener dos iguales porque doblaste el fieltro en dos)

 

step 3   ***   paso 3

cut the string (as long or short as you would like), fold it in half and thread the bead through both ends.

cortá el hilo (del largo que te parezca), doblalo por la mitad y enhebrá las cuentas.

 

step 4   ***   paso 4

make a knot at both ends close to the beads.

hacé un nudo cerca de la primera y última cuenta.

 

step 5   ***   paso 5

put glue on the stars.

poné la goma de pegar en las estrellas.

 

step 6   ***   paso 6

put the string on one side of the star and cover with the other, holding it with your hand for a few seconds.

colocá el hilo sobre una estrella y después pegá la otra encima, apretalas unos segundos con tu mano.

 

and voilà!  you can thread them on a longer string to make a garland or you can use them as ornaments.  fiona hang hers on the door handle of her room, and i think it will stay there till way past christmas.

y voilà!  ahora las podés colgar de un hilo más largo para formar una guirnalda o las podeés usar como ornamentos para el arbolito de navidad.  fiona eligió colgar la suya en la manija de la puerta de su cuarto y me parecee que se va a quedar ahi hasta pasada la navidad.

tutorial: cupcake liner flowers *** tutorial: flores de moldes de cupcakes

so, we had mother's day tea celebration at fiona's school today.  it was so sweet!  i will post photos later, but i wanted to post this tutorial before mother's day, just in case your little ones (or yourself!) would like to make some of these cute flowers.

hoy festejaron el día de la madre (que por estos pagos es el domingo) en el cole de fiona, fue una dulzura, pronto pongo fotos.  pero hoy quería publicar este tutorial asi, si querés, podés hacer estas flores justo antes del día de la madre.

 

it is super-easy and fiona had a lot of fun making them. here are the materials:

son super-fáciles y a fiona le encantó hacerlas.  estos son los materiales:

• pipe cleaners
• scissors
• beads
• cupcake liners (i have a little collection, since every time i see some on sale, i buy them.  i also bought some online.  but you can use the plain ones, like i did for the inside of the flowers, and they would still look very cute)

• limpia pipas (uno por flor)
  
• tijera
• cuentitas de colores
• papeles/moldes de cupcakes o tortitas

make a knot close to one of the edges of the pipe cleaner.

hacé un nudo cerca de una de las puntas del limpia pipas

cut a very small slit in the center of the cupcake liner.

cortá un tajito en el centro del molde de papel.

you can cut the slit on two or three liners at the same time.

podés cortar de a dos o tres papelitos a la vez.

place the pipe cleaner through the slit.

pasá el limpia pipas por el corte en el papel.

do the same with the rest of the liners (we used three more, but you can use as many as you'd like!)

hacé lo mismo con el resto de los papelitos (nosotras usamos tres más, pero vos podés usar la cantidad que quieras, por supuesto!)

insert the pipe cleaner through the bead.

pasá el limpia pipas por el orificio de la cuentita.

fold the tip of the pipe cleaner into the bead.  and voilà!

doblá la punta del alambre e insertalo adentro de la abertura de la cuentita.  y voilà!

 

you can display them together

las podés poner en un recipiente todas juntas

or put them in differernt containers.

o las podés poner separadas

tutorial and giveaway ::: tutorial y regalo

so, i have had a few requests for a tutorial for the following things i made a while ago:

varias personas me preguntaron si podía explicarles como hacer estas flores:

so here is my tutorial:

asique aca va el tutorial:

cut 12 circles of fabric, i cut 3 different sizes for this particular flower, but you can experiment with cutting all the circles the same size and use different fabrics, like i did here or just one fabric.  also, cut a smaller circle out of felt for the back of the flower.

corta 12 círculos de tela, yo corté 3 tamaños distintos para esta flor, pero vos podes experimentar cortando todos los círculos del mismo tamaño o, también podes usar una sola tela para todos.  también corta un círculo más chiquito de paño lenci o fieltro para la parte de atrás de la flor.

fold the circles in half and then in half again.

doblá los círculos por la mitad dos veces.

sew the folded circles to the felt circle.

cosé los círculos al círculo de fieltro.

sew the smaller circles overlapping the bigger ones.

cosé los círculos más chicos sobre los más grandes, si querés hacelos que no coincidan justo uno arriba del otro.

sew the smallest circles the same way.

cosé los círculos más chiquitos de la misma forma.

and voilà!  i trimmed the bigger circles a bit and added a little button in the center and a pin in the back.
note that if you use a stiffer fabric, like i did in the flower in the first photo, it is going to look different.

y voilà!  yo corté un poco los círculos mas grandes y le agregué un botón en el medio y un alfiler de prendedor atrás.  nota:  la flor va a ser diferente si usas una tela mas gruesa (como en la primera foto).
